Ayurveda
Introduction to Ayurveda
Ancient rishis, through meditation and illumination discovered
the deep truths in life. Ayu means ‘life’ or ‘daily living’ and Veda
means ‘knowing’, therefore Ayurveda is the science of life. This
healing system has been practiced in daily life in India for more
than 5000 years.
It is holistic in that the beliefs are based on the fact that we are
holistic beings, mind, body and spirit, totally interconnected with
ourselves and the universe. We are influenced by the cycles of the
environment within and without ourselves. The rishis taught
that to maintain vital health we must be in balance with all the
rhythms of nature. After all, we are a part of nature, something
that is easy to forget in our modern world.
Along with the health recommendations, (physical, mental and
spiritual) a whole philosophy was created that spawned more
bodies of knowledge found in Yoga, Hinduism and Buddhism.
Even the ancient Tibetan and Chinese medicines and other Asian
healing modalities can be traced back to Ayurveda.
Since that time the body of information has been continually
refined so that it is totally appropriate for our modern day. It is
increasingly integrated into western medical schools as part of
the curriculum.
It is very subtle. Unlike our modern medicine that can cause
dramatic changes in someone’s condition, the Ayurvedic
recommendations are simply added to one’s lifestyle, gently
creating health from the inside out. Ayurveda's purpose is going
directly the root cause, according to the Ayurvedic doctor's
diagnosis.
If someone is undergoing treatment for a serious ailment,
Ayurveda can be of great value as complimentary care. But the
best use of this art is in the prevention of disease by bringing the
mind and body of the person into alignment with the perfect
health we were made to enjoy. Some of it is common sense, some
of it may sound foreign to you, but we do hope that this little
introduction will spur your interest in taking responsibility for
your own well being. Through all of the years we have studied
under Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. David Simon we can vouch for
the great power of even small changes in your lifestyle and how
they can return you to vibrant health, weight maintenance and
total well being, no matter what your age.
